BARTER OLYMPIA
BASIC INFORMATION
Barter Olympia is here to bring together local individuals and barter groups via monthly "Barter Events" to promote a living community of trade.
Events will be an opportunity to not only trade goods, but network with others and make trade a real and viable way of daily life. It will also be a great way to get us out from behind our computers and actually "interface" with other humans!
Barter Olympia is geared towards the exchange of goods and services that are central to our lives like food and drink, tools, health related items, car repair, landscaping, clothes, furniture, education, garden help and landscaping, health and dental services, kitchen utensils/pots and pans, art, music lessons, video production and multi-media services, computer repair and anything that we need to live good lives.
We discourage non-essentials like Beanie-Babies, Star war collectibles, Pyramid schemes and Advertisements. Also, we would like to keep money out of the process as much as possible.
Here are some of the realizations we have come to related to barter:
1) Everyone has something to barter. No matter who you are you have a trade, life skill, your time, your knowledge and/or some goods to trade.
2) Barter works best face-to-face between individuals with who meet and with whom we can build trust.
3) Barter is not only about trade, it is also about the community created around trade and all the benefits that come from that community.
4) 95% of success is showing up! Web pages full of stuff tend to keep us islolated from one another. Showing up for Barter Events makes barter happen and fosters relationships.
